Who Builds Your Architecture? Workshop

WBYA? is a coalition of architects, activists, scholars, and educators that tackles the pressing question: who builds your architecture? to examine the links between labor, architecture and the global networks that form around building buildings. As major architectural projects unfold in the Middle East, Asia, Africa and around the globe, and as architects from the US increasingly work abroad, we explore the ethical, social and political questions that emerge under these relatively new circumstances. From workers’ rights to construction practices to design processes to new technologies WBYA? investigates the role of architecture and architects: what it is and what it could be.

Small Projects Archicture Awards

The Chicago chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) hosts the biggest little party of the year, showcasing the best residential, commercial and institutional architecture and functional objects designed over the past year. Complimentary bites and beverages provided - including beer generously donated by Lagunitas Brewing Company.

Presented by the AIA Chicago Small Practitioners Group, the goal of this awards program is to raise public awareness of the value that architects bring to small projects and to promote small practitioners as a resource for design excellence. All firms in the competition have fewer than nine licensed architects and architectural interns. All submitted projects are less than 5,000 square feet in size.

Come on over to Architectural Artifacts in Ravenswood if you:

- are planning to hire an architect for your home or small business

- want to make connections within Chicago's architectural community

- wish to be inspired by the amazing work being done in Chicago on a smaller scale - no skyscrapers here!

Arquitectos - Rebuilding Day with RTMC

Join Arquitectos in our 21st year of partnering with Rebuilding Together!

Saturday, April 29 (8am-4pm) in Robbins, IL

The visible culmination of the home repair program occurs annually on National Rebuilding Day - the last Saturday in April. Teams of volunteers are mobilized to work in partnership with the community to repair the homes and improve the neighborhoods of elderly, disabled and low-income residents so that they may continue to live in warmth, safety and independence.

Each year, in preparation for National Rebuilding Day, Rebuilding Together Metro Chicago recruits and trains sponsor teams, identifies and screens homeowner applicants, raises private funds for building materials, and coordinates the logistics of a volunteer effort that encompasses over 3,500 people.

To date, our National Rebuilding Day sponsors and volunteers have helped repair and renovate over 1,600 homes in Chicagoland!
